With the purpose of revitalizing the regional economy by promoting the growth and reinforcing the competitiveness of ICT industry in Gangwon-do and furthermore of catalyzing the advancement of knowledge-based industry, Gang-won Research Institute of ICT Convergence was established in September, 2004 with the support from KT and KTOA.

Today, the society is in the middle of the fast transition within the 4th Industrial Revolution. The 4th Industrial Revolution lies within automation and intellectualization of process and integration of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Big Data, biotechnology, 3D printing and many others.

It is paramount to seek a strategy adequate for the nation’s circumstances by thorough analysis on the 4th Industrial Revolution and changes in the future society. Our center has dedicated in researches on the Internet of Things (USN, M2M, IoT) since the foundation as an innovative ICT organization and has preemptively responded to the 4th Industrial Revolution by securing IoT, Big Data, Machine Running, visualization based on our self-developed platform.

In particular, we are trying to turn regional industries in Gangwon-do to highly valued industries through integrating ICT into the local main industries such as medical devices, tourism, energy industries, and Smart Farm. In the pursuit of this purpose, our center brings about expansion of ICT and lead the 4th Industrial Revolution in Gangwon-do through providing Open Tech, technical transfer, prototype production support and technical support to regional corporates.
